If you can’t control your dog, don’t own one. Ohio needs stricter dog laws now.

Lawmakers need to demand more accountability for dangerous dogs.

The time has come for stricter dog laws. Like many residents on the West Side, I was outraged to read about the dog attacks in Colerain. The current Ohio laws for dangerous and vicious dogs were even more frustrating to read. There are two solutions.

First, the Ohio Legislature must pass a new law involving nuisance, dangerous and vicious dog penalties. It makes zero sense how a dog owner can only be fined equal to a traffic ticket for their dog killing another dog and/or a human being.

Second, we as a community must end this “if my dog gets out, they will just come back” mentality. Dogs are not toys. Last time I checked, there was not a Build-A-Dog store at Kenwood Towne Centre. They require patience, training and, most importantly and obviously, love. I am sick and tired of my Ring app alerting me of dogs on the run from concerned citizens trying to do the right thing. Take personal responsibility or don’t buy a dog, period.

With spring and summer approaching, I fear another tragedy is just around the corner. Regardless of neighborhood location, we must all demand accountability and new legislation regarding this issue.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
