Ice Dogs season skates into view with fall rolling in

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) – Fall brings in the high school sports season, but there is another sports season that rallies the rowdy fans to occupy the Big Dipper Ice Arena in Fairbanks for every home hockey game.

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs season is just around the corner, and for the fans it cannot come soon enough, so let’s jump into what the front half of the campaign looks like.

The Ice Dogs will spend the first seven games, and all of September on the road, kicking off the season in Minnesota against the Wilderness for a two game series September 13 and 14.

The week after, the team heads to Wisconsin for two games, with the first against the Janesville Jets September 20, and the second game will be September 21, against the Wisconsin Windigo.

After a short break, the team will play in the 21st Annual North American Hockey League (NAHL) Showcase at the National Sports Center Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota.

The Ice Dogs will play the New Jersey Titans September 25, the Rochester Jr. Americans September 27, and, lastly, the Amarillo Wranglers September 28.

Finally, the Ice Dogs will return to Fairbanks for the first home series of the year, October 11 and 12 against the Janesville Jets. The next week will kick off the Club 49 Cup against the Anchorage Wolverines October 18 and 19.

The 25 and 26 of October, the team will head to Soldotna, Alaska, to take on Club 49 Cup rivals, the Kenai River Brown Bears.

November 8 and 9 the Springfield Jr Blues come into town, and the rest of the month will be spent in Alaska. The Dogs will head back to Soldotna to take on the Brown Bears, November 15 and 16, and then finish the month with a four game home stand.

The 22 and 23 of November will be against the Anchorage Wolverines, and November 29 and 30, will see another two game series against the Brown Bears for the final two games in Fairbanks for the year.

December 6 and 7 they will head to the team’s sister city in Marshall, Minnesota, to take on the Chippewa Steel. December 13 and 14 the dogs will travel to Springfield, Illinois to take on the Springfield Jr. Blues, and for the final series of 2024, the team will head to Wisconsin to play the Windigo.

The first half of the season will see 27 games before the Christmas break, and the second half will see 32 starting January 3, against the Chippewa Steel.
