CONWAY, S.C. (WMBF/Gray News) – The owners of a beloved dog are searching for answers after it was found shot to death in South Carolina.
Owners Tracy and JoAnn Luyster said their dog Ace was found dead in a retention pond with two gunshot wounds.
“My little buddy, I mean this dog had so much affection,” Tracy said. “He would literally sit with me and he would just hug you.”
According to a police report, the owners told officers their three dogs got out early one morning.
Tracy said the automatic garage door was left open and Ace knew how to open the kitchen door.
“They got out, I could see on our ring cameras, the two dogs, Ace and our littlest one, go out to the street,” he said.
According to the report, only two of them managed to come home on their own within a couple of hours. The owner said they were unable to find the third dog, Ace, after looking for hours.
Later that afternoon, the owner got a call from someone who said they found the dog in a retention near their home.
The dog reportedly had two visible gunshot wounds, one to the left side of his head and the other at the “very-center top portion of the head.”
The wounds also appeared to be from a small-caliber firearm, according to the police report.
“I couldn’t fathom it. I couldn’t figure out why, who in their right mind would ever do this,” Tracy said.
