A giant dog who put on a sob show while asking Grandma to get on the couch left the internet in stitches.
Dog owner Matt Odabashian told Newsweek that he visits his mother’s house between one and three times a week, always bringing along his Boerboel, Lily. His mother and Lily hit it off from day one after Odabashian drove over seven hours to rescue her.
When he picked her up, Odabashian saw Lily covered in fleas and severely underweight. According to the American Kennel Club, these giant, Mastiff-like dogs can weigh between 150 and 200 pounds, but at the time of her adoption, Lily weighed about 115 pounds.
Odabashian learned dog training wouldn’t be easy. Lily never lived indoors, and she became a bit nippy. He immediately started her with intense dog training and socialization by bringing her everywhere with him. Lily has come a long way since being rescued about five years ago.
She became a “mush ball” and the “friendliest dog.” He brings her to his work in Providence, Rhode Island, where she’s become a local celebrity.
Through her training and new life, one thing remained constant—Lily’s love for Grandma. But with all that love came Lily’s hilarious demands for more.
In a February 1 TikTok video, Odabashian’s mother sat on the couch with Lily at her feet. The giant dog couldn’t believe Grandma wouldn’t let her up on the couch. She placed her paws on the sofa and looked at Grandma with begging eyes. Her body flopped onto Grandma’s lap over the unfair treatment.
“I can see where this is going,” Odabashian’s mother said in the video. “No.”
Upset with the response, Lily put her paws back down on the ground and looked away. Odabashian and his mother were surprised to see that she had given up.

Grandma might have won in that clip, but Lily “sometimes wins the battle.” Odabashian said his mother “talks a big game,” but after she finally lets Lily on the couch, she’ll say, “Come here,” and the two cuddle.
“It’s a funny battle, that’s why I always get it on film,” he said. “There is no shortage of material.”
But when Lily gets on the couch, whether at his place or his mother’s, there’s no room for anyone else.
“She is the couch,” he said. “She is as big as she looks and weighs about 155 pounds…”
Viewer Reactions
The TikTok video amassed over 6.8 million views, 993,000 likes and 2,712 comments as of Friday.
“She said, ‘But grandma, I’m just a baby,'” wrote a viewer.
A second person joked: “She’s so small you won’t even notice.”
Others demanded justice for Lily: “You let that baby on the couch right now!! It’s the law!”
