Hysterics as doodles have full-blown argument over couch: “This is my spot”

A clip of two dogs arguing on the couch over who deserves to sit there has reminded viewers that canines aren’t so different from children.

In an April 26 TikTok video by user @oakliestorm, a pet parent sat on the couch watching television with two dogs on the opposite end. However, the owner couldn’t get true rest and relaxation as the pair of pups started arguing. It turns out that Oaklie, the mini merle bernedoodle, wasn’t too thrilled about sharing her spot on the couch.

Oaklie sat against the back of the couch. She wanted her paws to spread out in front of her, but the other dog, an Aussiedoodle, prevented that from happening by sitting on the edge, blocking Oaklie’s view of the television, and the mini merle bernedoodle was not happy.

Oaklie placed her front paws gently on the other dog’s back, quietly whining as if to say, “This is my spot.” But, when the other canine did not immediately follow her demands, she brought out her big weapon: the back feet. Holding on to the pillows for support, she used her back legs to push against the dog.

The other canine wouldn’t budge. Just as Oaklie wanted to be comfortable on the couch, so did this dog. Even with enough room for the two of them, they remained adamant about keeping their spot.

Newsweek reached out to @oakliestorm via TikTok for additional comment.

Most dogs love getting up on the couch. This is because canines enjoy being in places where they feel safe, comfortable and loved, an article from Wag Walking reported. They especially love being where their owners are located. As pack animals, pups want to stay close and protect their humans. So, if they see their humans curled up on the bed or couch, then they will want to climb up next to them.

The video quickly went viral on TikTok, bringing in over 1.7 million views and more than 277,000 likes as of Friday. People were cracking up at how this interaction immediately reminded them of two young siblings fighting.

“It’s like having toddlers again,” commented a viewer, while a second person posted: “AND they say dogs can’t talk! Pretty sure he just cussed his sibling out.”

A third user wrote: “The way he leaned up against the couch for leverage.”

Others weren’t surprised by the dog’s demands. One viewer added: “The drama of a doodle who isn’t getting their way is unmatched.”
