Humane Society of Broward hopes to find ‘furever’ homes for Manny, other dogs

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – The Humane Society of Broward County is calling on the public to open their homes to a growing number of puppies, including an 11-week-old shepherd mix named Manny, who appeared on Saturday morning’s “Adopt a Pet” segment.

Cherie Wachter, a spokesperson for the shelter, introduced Manny, describing him as “adorable, smart, and playful”—and just one of many puppies currently up for adoption.

“We’ve almost got him sitting for a treat,” she said. “He’s got those razor-sharp puppy teeth, so toys and chew bones are a must.”

The shelter has recently taken in litters from other Florida shelters, many in rural areas where adoptions are less frequent.

Wachter said the influx is largely due to pet overpopulation and a lack of spaying and neutering. Some animals, like Manny, come from local homes that simply had too many pets.

The segment also featured Astra, a one-year-old dog who has been treated for heartworm and is now part of the Florida Panthers’ “Benny’s Buddies” program—where forward Sam Bennett sponsors adoption fees whenever he scores a goal.

“We have dogs of all ages,” Wachter said. “If you’re not ready for a puppy, we have incredible adult dogs, too. They make great companions.”

More information and available animals can be found at HumaneBroward.com. Obedience and puppy training classes are also offered through the shelter.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
