PALM SPRINGS, Fla. (CBS12) — Detectives and cadaver dogs swarmed a Palm Springs property on Friday after a resident stumbled upon what turned out to be human remains.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) said on June 19, at around 2:48 p.m., a bystander discovered human remains in the backyard of a residence near 3900 Lakewood Road and alerted the Palm Springs Police Department.
Officers responded to the scene and immediately contacted the PBSO for investigative support, according to the news release. By the next day, June 20, the case had escalated, prompting a full-scale response from PBSO’s Violent Crimes Division, including K-9 cadaver dogs, crime scene investigators, and academic experts from Florida Gulf Coast University.
The Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office was also present to assist in the recovery and examination of the remains.
Law enforcement confirmed that human remains were located, though details regarding identity, cause of death, or how long the remains had been there have not yet been released. Investigators emphasized that the case is in its early stages and that the scene was being carefully processed for evidence.

“Detectives are in the early stages of this active investigation,” PBSO said in a statement. “Additional information will be released as it becomes available.”
Authorities have not indicated whether foul play is suspected. Updates will be provided as the forensic investigation continues.
