Pet owners are going wild for a new trend that uses AI to transform their dogs into humans.
It’s part of a series of trends where people use ChatGPT to turn a real image into an AI equivalent based on a particular prompt.
What is the pet to human AI trend?
Social media sites including TikTok and Reddit have seen floods of viral posts, usually first showing a photo of a dog, followed by the ChatGPT result, which shows what that dog may look like as a human.
Users can use different prompts to tweak the result, such as by showing what the dog would look like as an office worker, or instructing the AI to have them playing with a ball outside.
The trend comes after a wave of user-generated images using ChatGPT, including the hugely popular action figure trend which saw people transform themselves and their friends into a boxed-up toy, flooded the internet.
AI-generated images in the style of Studio Ghibli artwork also took over social media in March.

Instructions: How to Convert a Pet Photo into a Human Illustration By Using AI
- Go to chatgpt.com and log in, or sign up to create an account for free.
- Upload a photo of your dog in the chat bar, and ask: “Can you create an image of this dog as a human?”
- The bot may reply asking for follow-up questions to get the image just right, such as asking the pet’s gender, age, the type of clothing you want the dog to be wearing, and where you want the generated photo to be set, such as a park or café.
- The bot will then start generating the image—this may take some time.
- Once the image has been generated, you can save and download the image and share it across the internet, or with family and friends.
How to view the dog-to-human AI trend online
While it’s unclear which single individual began the trend, countless photos have been shared to the likes of TikTok, Reddit, and Instagram of people’s pets turned into humans.
You can search the results on TikTok by searching “AI dog to human,” or the hashtag #chatgpt.
Results can vary—and one viral video shared to TikTok account @lazy.pitch on April 13 racked up millions of views as it showed a sweet Pomeranian transformed into a wild-looking older woman with the Pom’s trademark fluffy orange hair, lying on the floor with an unimpressed look on her face.
One business, @trunkbbi, used the prompt to turn each of their office dogs into what they would look like as human employees, and white-furred dogs became older workers, while one British Bulldog became a woman clad in leather and wearing a rock band t-shirt.
What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is one of the most popular large language model (LLM) artificial intelligence tools, created by OpenAI. It launched in November 2022, with it’s most recent version (4.5) released in February.
ChatGPT is known for its conversational tone, and people have developed everyday uses for it that often go viral, such as helping with grocery lists or dating profiles. There have also been concerns raised about the environmental impact of running LLMs like ChatGPT, Google‘s Gemini, and Microsoft‘s CoPilot, which require large amounts of energy to power.
