A rescue dog’s way of sleeping at his foster carer’s home has tugged at the heartstrings of viewers online.
The video, which was shared to TikTok by fosterer Kirsten Kim under @kirstennnk, captured the peaceful sleep of the dog who had been taken in during Hurricane Milton. The video, which was posted on October 11, has been liked more than 139,000 times and has led to significant interest in the dog’s temporary respite away from the storm.
Hurricane Milton, which wreaked havoc in densely populated areas along Florida’s Gulf Coast with winds of more than 100 miles per hour and a dangerous storm surge, prompted many animal shelters in its path to take drastic measures to ensure the safety of their animals. Shelters in the eye of the storm either rushed to send their pets to sister shelters or arranged foster homes elsewhere to protect them from the impending danger.
Kirsten Kim, a resident of Miami, Florida, became a temporary guardian for one of these displaced pets. Viewers online were able to see the content creator’s foster dog sprawled comfortably on her sofa, deeply relaxed and undisturbed by the outside world.
An overlaid text on the video read: “My hurricane foster having the best sleep of his life snoring and farting while dreaming on my couch.”
Kim’s video has drawn empathetic comments from viewers online.
“If you can’t adopt him please continue to foster him until he gets adopted,” one viewer said.
Another user added: “Please let him stay with you. He thinks he made it out.”
“I am sobbing thinking about him having to go back he’s going to be so heartbroken,” a third viewer said. “Thank you for giving him the best 8 days he’s probably ever had.”
“I hope all the people giving out the guilt trips go foster animals too. As a foster myself, those that stepped up to help, even if very short term, are heroes,” added another social media user.
“He’s sleeping belly up with you already! He feels so safe and comfortable,” said one.
Kim said in the comments that she could not adopt the pet, but that she hoped the viral interest in him would lead to him finding a “forever home.”
