SPOKANE, Wash. – A fire at a home on Spokane’s South Hill resulted in the deaths of a woman and two dogs early Wednesday morning.
The Spokane Fire Department responded to the blaze around 12:40 a.m. on West 27th Avenue and arrived within four minutes to find flames engulfing the home.
Crews quickly secured a water supply, launched an aggressive interior search, and used several fire attack lines.
They also created ventilation openings in the roof to gain control over the rapidly spreading fire.
Inside, firefighters faced intense heat, heavy flames, and dense smoke, compounded by severe ‘hoarding conditions’.
Firefighters located and removed the woman and two dogs within ten minutes of arrival, and all were pronounced dead at the scene.
Firefighters needed nearly an hour to control the main body of the fire due to the extensive damage and heavy fuel load inside the home.
The Special Investigations Unit and the Spokane Police Department are investigating the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined.
Significant damage was sustained by the home and its contents, though a formal damage estimate has not been released.
SCRAPS was called to the scene to retrieve the deceased animals.
NonStop Local is on scene working to learn more information.
