A week after the popular American Graffiti Festival wrapped up in Modesto, the senior citizens of Turlock continued to build a similar annual tradition of their own.
On Friday, the Turlock Senior Center hosted the third Hot Dogs and Hot Rods event, where the senior community, family and friends were treated to hot dogs, root beer floats and classic cars over music from the 60s and the entertainment brought on by an Elvis impersonator.
The event represented not just a place for local seniors to munch and socialize, but also learn the resources offered by the center at 1191 Cahill St.
The Turlock Senior Citizens have a full slate of activities throughout the week.
Mondays offer low-impact exercises, “walk and firm,” qigong, spinners and dominoes, and billiards.
Tuesdays feature chair yoga, acrylic painting, chorus and ukulele, billiards, crochet and knitting, and line dancing.
Wednesdays offer the same activities as on Mondays, but also with quilting classes, bunco, pinochle, and in the afternoon, practice for Ingram’s Big Band.
With Thursdays off, Fridays mark the end of the week with more low-impact exercises and walk and firm, line dancing, billiards, bridge, and the always-popular bingo.
Those same days are when the senior center’s cafe is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Reservations for a free meal can be made by calling (209) 480-7381.
