CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Spring is in the air, and baseball is right around the corner. That means Riverdogs Baseball at the Joe is returning.
Tuesday, they displayed a little preview of what you can expect at the concession stand this year.
A day at the ball park isn’t complete without some good ballpark food, but what used to be just peanuts and hot dogs has evolved into things like Lowcountry Boil.
It’s a crash course in the evolution of eating, as the Riverdogs staff unleashed a cornucopia of concessions creations. Exotic fair like Duck Wellington and Chicken Ramen bowls are certainly a far cry from the old days.
Even the old staples get modern makeovers, like Southern Fried Nachos with pulled chicken and pork with mac and cheese. Even though Charlie will always be the top dog at the Joe, the hot dogs certainly got the Charleston treatment, with the Homewrecker dogs and brats topped with Chili, cheese, pulled pork, slaw, Pimento cheese, collards, pickled okra, and BBQ sauce.

The Riverdogs say any of the crazy creations you see on the Major League level, were probably inspired by items in minor league ball parks.
“They didn’t really venture in that realm and they really took what they’re doing from minor league ballparks ’cause they saw the success in it. Now they have chefs in there that are creating these amazing looking crazy products that we pay attention and we go to some of the games at some of the ballparks around us. We’ve been to the Rays stadium and seeing what they’re doing, to try to see how we can incorporate some of that into what we do as well, or take pieces that we see that would be fun for the fans here in Charleston,” said Josh Shea, the Riverdogs VP of Food and Beverage and chef at the teams Segra Club.
The menu doesn’t stop with the food. There are plenty of unique drinks, like the Hawaiian Bonfire, and specialty beer shakes.
And with plenty of alcohol as well, you can order beer flights, but on the food side, you can also get Ranch flights. But these are for dipping, not for drinking.
