Holiday campaign launched to find fur-ever homes for special needs dogs

A company that sells products for dogs — and the people who love them — is launching a new campaign that will benefit pups with special needs.

BarkBox told The National News Desk on Friday its new Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer-themed box is now available online at target.com, with stores offering the products starting Dec. 1.

The goal is not only to bring comfort and joy to pets as the holiday season approaches, but also help find six shelter dogs from across the nation their fur-ever homes in time for Dec. 25.

“To bring attention to the launch of BarkBox in Target stores, BARK has connected with shelters and rescue groups across the country for an online campaign that highlights ‘misfit’ adoptable dogs as the spokesmodels for marketing and social media materials,” BarkBox noted in an email. “By leveraging high-quality photography, BARK’s platform and the dog’s heartwarming stories the goal is to find forever homes for these pups for the holidays!”

Among the dogs up for adoption are Galleta, Milo, Porky, Bebe, Mo, and Jo. Each animal has his or her own unique story.

A news release shared details about the animals, as well as the hardships they’ve faced.

Galleta, a Shepherd and Cattle Dog mix from Minneapolis, iswheelchair-bound and was found as a stray with bullet fragments in his stomach.

Milo, an American Eskimo mix from Chicago, has an autoimmune condition that caused him to lose most of his fur.

Porky, is a Bulldog from Los Angeles “whowas surrendered to a shelter when his backyard breeder was not able to make a profit off of him.”

Bebe, a Pitbull mix, was abandoned in the streets of New York City and hit by a car, paralyzing his hind legs.

And then there are Mo and Jo, a pair of 3-month-old Australian shepherd puppies from Texas.

“As a result of unethical merle to merle breeding practices, Mo and Jo are completely deaf. Despite these challenges, Mo and Jo score huge points of being off-the-charts cute and are in need of a safe and supportive home where they can grow into their full potential of being great dogs.”

No matter their ailments, they all need homes.

“There are a number of reasons why certain dogs can be overlooked in shelters. Statistically, bonded pairs, shy or anxious dogs and dogs with disabilities have a harder time getting adopted, despite their personalities,” Michael Black, who is the chief revenue officer and general Manager of consumables at BARK, said. “BARK as a company is full of self-identifying misfit humans and perfectly imperfect dogs. We are using our BarkBox launch at Target to highlight these incredible dogs who’ve been through difficult times and help connect them with their future families.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
