Hikers at Whiskeytown advised to stay alert for rattlesnakes and keep dogs on leash

With snakes emerging from their winter dens, it’s crucial to know how to avoid rattlesnake bites. Experts advise taking several precautions to protect both yourself and your pet.

“Always look where you are about to place your hands and feet,” they said. If you encounter a snake in the wild, “do not approach it; enjoy looking at it from a distance.” Additionally, “keep your pet on leash at all times.”

If bitten by a rattlesnake, call 911 immediately. “Stay as calm as possible and try to move as little as necessary,” they advised. Removing any tight clothing or jewelry near the bite is essential, as swelling is likely to occur. “Stay still and wait for help to arrive.”

If you spot a rattlesnake in a busy park area, contact park dispatch at (530) 242-3431.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
