MOHAWK, N.Y. — The Herkimer County Humane Society said on May 22 that it rescued five adult dogs and 12 puppies from a deplorable home in Mohawk, N.Y.
A Facebook post from the Humane Society shows dogs with quills stuck in their faces. The post includes a photo of a room in the home where they were found. The room is incredibly filthy with what appears to be dog feces all over the floor.
The Humane Society said the dogs were in pain and needed hours of emergency care to remove the quills. All of the dogs will need to be spayed and neutered and vaccinated.
“We are dedicated working tirelessly to provide shelter and care to the failed animals of this community,” the Humane Soceity wrote. “We didn’t even have kennels available for this rescue but were determined not to leave them either.”

The Humane Society said it is accepting donations to cover the cost of the dogs and puppies’ veterinary bills.
According to the Humane Society, the owner of the building is not at fault for the dogs and puppies’ condition and that they’ve been unsuccessful in evicting them.
