Here are 10 mid-Michigan dog parks for off-leash fun this spring

After a long winter, many dog owners are eager to take their canine companions outside to burn off energy and socialize with other dogs.

With amenities ranging from obstacle courses to water stations for dogs and their owners, there are a number of parks across mid-Michigan where owners can unleash their dogs for a tail-wagging time this spring.

Here are 10 dog parks located in Genesee, Saginaw, Bay, and Lapeer counties for your pooch’s pleasure:

Davison Area Dog Park

The Davison Area Dog Park, located at 1285 N. Gale Road in Davison Township, includes a pavilion, picnic tables, benches, restrooms, water stations, trash receptacles, and agility equipment.

All of the amenities lie beyond the park’s doghouse-shaped entrance.

Park visitors can also walk or bike along the nearby Black Creek Nature Trail which connects to the Abernathy Park Trail in Davison.

Bay County Central Bark Park

The Bay County Central Bark Park, located at 800 Livingston St. in Bay City, is the only public space in the county that allows unleashed dogs.

The park, located on the county’s fairgrounds, features separate play areas for large and small dogs, water stations, trash receptacles, tunnels, weave poles, a teeter-totter, and other agility equipment.

Steven A. Kirshenbaum Memorial Bark Park

Nearly one half-acre in size, the Steven A. Kirshenbaum Memorial Bark Park is part of Imerman Memorial Park, located at 3495 Midland Road in Saginaw.

The dog park includes multiple agility obstacles, benches, waste stations, and ample space for dogs to run and play.

While in the area, visitors can also spend some time checking out the other amenities in Imerman Memorial Park which includes access to the Tittabawassee River.

Thompson Road Regional Dog Park

Dog owners in southern Genesee County can stop by Thompson Road Regional Dog Park, located at 1343 W. Thompson Road in Fenton Township.

Dogs can exercise on the obstacle course spread across the park. The park also features waste stations.

The park opened in 2017, and its agility equipment was built by local Eagle Scout Sam Levi and brought to the park by volunteers from the area.

Rotary Park/Lapeer Dog Park

Since it was built in 2021, the Lapeer Dog Park has been providing area dog-owners with year-round access to separate areas for small and large dogs, benches, waste stations, and a water station.

The park is located at 24 E. Park St. in downtown Lapeer.

The approximately one-acre dog park is part of Rotary Park, which also features a pavilion, playground, and a pathway along the Flint River.

Hund Platz

German for ‘dog place,’ Hund Platz offers an unleashed space for dogs to exercise and socialize in Frankenmuth’s Memorial Park.

The half-acre park, located at 624 E. Tuscola St., includes agility equipment, benches, and waste stations, but dog owners visiting the park are encouraged to bring their own water.

Midland Dog Park

The only dog park in the city, the Midland Dog Park spans across approximately 4 acres in Chippewassee Park, located at the end of Ashman Street in the city.

The dog park features a combination of open and wooded spaces for dogs to roam as well as a water station, agility courses, waste bags, and separate area for smaller dogs.

Flushing County Park

Flushing County Park’s off-leash dog park area features separate areas for small and large dogs as well as a pavilion, which was built in 2017.

While visiting the dog park area, dog-owners can also explore other parts of the 105-acre Flushing County Park, located at 4417 McKinley Road in Flushing, which includes tennis courts, pavilions, and fitness areas.

Grand Blanc Dog Park

The Grand Blanc Dog Park, located at 1505 E. Grand Blanc Road in Grand Blanc Township, offers a variety of amenities for dogs and their owners, including separate spaces for small and large dogs as well as agility equipment.

The dog park is one of several features at Grand Blanc Township’s Creasy Bicentennial Park.

Among the park’s other features are hiking trails, picnic areas, playgrounds, and athletic fields.
