SAN ANTONIO (June 13, 2025) – Ever had a dog growl over a toy or get possessive about their food bowl? You’re not alone, and an upcoming training with the experts at San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS) will help pet parents decode their canine companion’s “mine” mentality.
SAACS is hosting a free public education session on June 17 from 6 – 7 p.m. at the shelter located at 4710 State Highway 151. Led by the shelter’s professional dog trainers, the people-only session will cover the what, why, and how of resource guarding.
Session Highlights
- Common signs of guarding and early red flags
- Why dogs develop this behavior and how to safely respond when guarding occurs
- Positive training techniques to reduce guarding at home
- How SAACS helps adopted shelter dogs via adopter guidance and training support
To RSVP, email ACStrainers@sanantonio.gov. Space is limited. This education session is for people only; pets should be left at home.
