A dog’s precious reaction to her owner’s pregnancy bump has melted hearts online.
TikTok user Jasmine Michelle shared an adorable clip to the social media platform earlier this week showing her dog, named Mimi, cuddling her baby bump and gently resting her head on it at every opportunity.
The footage, which was captured throughout Michelle’s pregnancy, shows how this became a very regular occurrence for the nine months. Indeed, the love the pup felt for her human sibling didn’t stop there as the video also shows the doting Mimi lying beside her baby sister when she finally arrived.
Since the video was shared online by @ohshitsheslegit, it has delighted TikTok users who can’t get enough of the heartwarming bond between the dog and baby. In just a matter of days, the video has amassed more than 12.5 million views and over 2.4 million likes as of Friday morning.
Newsweek has contacted Michelle via Instagram and Instagram for comment.
Alongside the sweet footage, the caption reads: “My first baby was with me every step of the pregnancy and now helps me in every step of motherhood. Grateful for my two girls.”
While it’s unclear if and when a dog can tell if their owner is pregnant, it is assumed that they can detect the physical changes that occur. The American Kennel Club (AKC) explains that dogs have 60 times as many smell receptors as humans, and they can differentiate between 30,000 to 100,000 aromas. So, while they can likely detect changes in their human’s scent when they become pregnant, they might not understand the reason why.
Every dog will react differently, but the AKC notes that some pups become protective, and others might be more fearful. They have an innate need to protect, which may make them become highly alert during the pregnancy.
But it’s not just physical changes dogs pick up on as they can also sense behavioral changes. It’s thought that dogs can understand emotional and mood changes that their owner displays and any modifications to their home environment too. For this reason, the AKC recommends preparing the dog as best as possible before the new arrival. This can help them adjust and make the transition to their new normal.

In the days since Michelle shared the video, it has gained more than 19,800 comments on TikTok. Many users praised the dog’s adorable behavior, and hailed the lifelong bond she will have with her sibling.
One user wrote: “This made me so teary eyed, omg! The way she turns her head to listen with her other ear, she knows.”
Another TikTok user commented: “I swear we don’t deserve dogs.”
“This is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen,” a third added.
While one TikTok user responded: “She’s excited to be a big sister.”
