Hearts have well and truly been melted online by a video showing a dog’s adorable gesture for her sleeping owner to wake up to.
The clip was posted on TikTok by user @amerislava, showing the moment she woke up to find her dog laying beside her with some special gifts straight from the kitchen. While the owner was snoozing, her pup went to get some tasty snacks and placed them on the bed beside her “as a present,” just in case her human woke up hungry.
In the days since the video was posted on November 4, it has delighted internet users and generated over 350,000 views and 74,000 likes on TikTok already. Newsweek has contacted @amerislava via TikTok for comment.
Needless to say, the owner, from New York, couldn’t believe her luck when she opened her eyes to see a couple of delicious dog treats by her pillow. That’s clearly what everyone wants to wake up to.
As many dogs are motivated by food, sharing their resources with a person or another dog is undoubtedly an incredibly sweet gesture. Indeed, a 2017 study conducted by the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna decided to test out exactly how generous dogs are when it comes to offering out treats.
During the experiment, dogs had to touch a token that could earn a treat for themselves, and then they were given the option to treat the other dog in the same enclosure or not. The results showed that dogs exhibit this prosocial behavior as they were capable of being generous towards other canines. Although they didn’t always offer up a treat to other dogs, and they were more three times more likely to be charitable when the other dog was known to them.
These intriguing results highlight that dogs are similar to humans in this sense, as they tend to be more generous with their friends than with strangers who they don’t know.
What Did TikTok Users Say?
