When Greta and Archie first met at Sprockett’s Doggy Day Camp back in August, it was love at first sight. The pair would play together every chance they got and quickly became inseparable.
“Whenever they were both in on the same day, they would play together and then usually Greta would take a nap on top of Archie,” Theresa Mistelbacher, owner of Sprockett’s Doggy Day Camp, told The Dodo.
Archie was a puppy when he first started going to day care and wasn’t fully grown yet. He and Greta met while they were in the same section — but soon, he didn’t belong there anymore.
“Archie was moved [in the] middle of November to the ‘Big Dog’ pen,” Mistelbacher said.
Both Archie and Greta had other friends and didn’t seem too distraught — but anytime they would spot each other through the fence in their different sections, they immediately tried to find a way to still be close to each other.
“They would get very excited, so we would let them hang out beside each other,” Mistelbacher said. “We have regulations in Winnipeg, Manitoba, about what size dogs can be in the same pens together, which is why we can’t just let them play.”
Archie and Greta roll around on their respective sides, sticking their snouts through the fence and pawing at each other. They may be apart, but they’re still able to show each other they care. While they can’t play the way they used to, their love hasn’t faded, and Mistelbacher is hoping that, with their parents’ permission, the pair can be reunited occasionally.
Archie and Greta are still very much in love and refuse to let their size difference get in the way of that.
