Hastings man cited after dog breaks out of collar, bites someone, police say

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) – A Hastings man is facing citations for a second time over an unlicensed animal and failure to vaccinate after a dog bite that injured one.

According to Hastings Police, Larry Hammond’s dog broke out of its collar and bit someone walking by on Thursday. Police said the dog was unvaccinated and unlicensed, and will be quarantined at Heartland Pet Connection for 10 days.

The 67-year-old victim reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Hammond can get the dog back, but will still face a judge over the citations.

Hastings Police said this is not the first time Hammond has had a dog bite someone. According to Captain Jason Haase, a little over a year ago Hammond was cited for the exact same crimes after a German Shepard broke their collar and bit someone. It’s unclear if this is the same dog.

A neighbor of Hammond’s also shared that dog attacks have happened before, telling police they “didn’t see the dog attack but know the dog has attacked before.”

Police are looking into legally labeling the dog as vicious, and a judge may also declare certain limitations for the dog.

The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
