BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) – Harrison County Animal Control is increasing reclaim fees to encourage the community to be more conscious of the whereabouts of their dogs.
According to a post on the organization’s Facebook page, there have been an influx of repeat offenders, so they, along with the Harrison County Commission, are increasing the fees in order to deter them.
When you pick up your dog, you must show proof of rabies vaccination and have a current tax tag, which is paid yearly at the Harrison County Courthouse.
Beginning January 1st, if your dog is picked up as a stray, the fees are as follows:
First Offense
- Reclaim fee – $20
- Boarding fee – $5 a day until picked up
- No Tax Tag fee – $25
- No Rabies fee – $25
Second Offense
- Reclaim fee – $50
- Boarding fee – $10 a day until picked up
- No Tax Tag fee – $25
- No Rabies fee – $45
Third Offense
- Reclaim fee – $100
- Boarding fee – $15 a day until picked up
- No Tax Tag fee – $25
- No Rabies fee – $65
Officials said their system tracks how many times they intake the same animal and that if they have previously had your pet, you will have to pay the increased amount listed.
Accidents happen, which is why the first offense is significantly lower than the second and third, officials said. They also said that having proper identification on your dog leads to a high probability that your dog will make it home without coming to their facility.
