GRAPHIC: Fries man indicted for torturing and kidnapping of dog

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – A grand jury has indicted a man from Fries for charges connected to the torture and kidnapping of a dog.

Alexander Davis, Jr. is charged with felony torturing/maiming a dog and felony larceny of certain animals. A grand jury returned a true bill on both charges.

A woman told a Carroll County Sheriff’s deputy her dog, Ghost, disappeared December 21, 2023. She found him the next day in an embankment off the side of the road in an Amazon cardboard box, covered in blood and beaten to death.

Law enforcement traced the box back to the woman’s neighbor, Alexander Davis, Jr.

The police report states Davis, Jr. told his neighbors he killed their dog, “because he found his chickens dead a few days prior and believed they took his dead chickens and ‘hauled them off’. He said when he [saw] their dog, he ‘killed him and hauled him off too’.”

A necropsy report from Virginia Tech Veterinary Teaching Hospital reveals Ghost died from blunt sharp force trauma to the head from a pick axe/hammer or two different weapons. The report states “the dog was alive, and most likely conscious, for all the blows to the head.”

Davis is set to appear back in court on September 4. Court records show he is out on bail.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
