GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – The Grand Rivers Humane Society was awarded a grant of $2,500 from the Western Colorado Community Foundation (WCCF) to support life-saving treatment and care for local rescued cats and dogs.
Awarded funding will aim to help the organization further serve its’ vital mission, “Saving Mesa County homeless cats and dogs by providing spay and neuter surgeries, immunizations, and extensive life-saving medical treatment; arranging for foster care and finding loving homes”.
“More than 560 cats and dogs will find their way to Grand Rivers Humane Society in 2024, and it is the organization’s goal to ensure positive outcomes for each one,” noted Board Chair, Nanette McNees. “The grant from Western Colorado Community Foundation provides much-needed resources to deal with the pet overpopulation crisis affecting our community.”
The nonprofit organization is ran by a six-member Board of Directors and three part-time staff. Organization operations are a volunteer-driven effort with volunteers contributing thousands of hours of their time, fostering, transporting, and caring for animals, running adoption events, answering emails, talking to potential adopters on the phone, coordinating medical treatment, surgery, and immunizations, and organizing fundraising and promotion efforts.
