{KXLG – Watertown, SD} In celebration of National Dachshund Day, local residents Meaghan Wharton and Laura Moore have organized a breed meet-up and fundraiser to benefit the Glacial Lakes Humane Society. The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 21, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, at the dog park located east of Highway 81, near Mt. Hope Cemetery (701-799 10th Avenue NE).
All dogs are welcome to attend this community gathering. A clearly marked truck will be stationed at the front gate, serving as a drop-off point for donations to the Glacial Lakes Humane Society. Needed items include pet beds, collars, leashes, bleach, laundry detergent, paper towels, blankets, pet toys, treats, and pet shampoo. Attendees will receive a bandana as a complimentary gift while supplies last.
For those wishing to make financial contributions, early online donations can be made to GLHS via https://bit.ly/GLHSdonate. Every contribution, whether monetary or in-kind, will support rescued animals by providing essential needs such as veterinary services, food, shelter, and companionship.
The Glacial Lakes Humane Society, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization established in 1977, relies entirely on community generosity for its operations. It does not receive regular public funding from the city, county, or state. The society cares for homeless pets in the Watertown area and a surrounding 70-mile radius, providing shelter, food, medical care, and attention, while working to match pets with “fur-ever” homes.
For event inquiries, individuals can message Meaghan or Laura on Facebook or text Laura at (605) 201-6839.
