The outpouring of donations to help a puppy in need was so great it was able to help save a second life, the Monmouth County SPCA says.
Last week, MCSPCA put out a plea for help for Chocolate Chip, a 10-month-old puppy who had been hit by a car and needed surgery to fix her broken leg.
“We are happy to report that the funds raised covered 100% of CC’s medical costs and she was able to receive her surgery,” MCSPCA wrote in an online update Tuesday. “A big thank you to Garden State Veterinary Specialists for taking such great care of our girl.”

Chocolate Chip now is back at the shelter to start her recovery, and MCSPCA says it hopes to have her in a foster home by the end of the week to continue the healing process.
The money raised for Chocolate Chip’s care was enough to also help Archie, another dog in need, the shelter says.
“Archie was brought to the Asbury Park Police Department last week in terrible shape, he was thin and lethargic and needed medical care ASAP. After some testing, we discovered that Archie had pancreatitis, which can lead to acute shock, and even death if left untreated,” the shelter wrote.
When Archie failed to respond to conventional treatment at the shelter, he was tranfered to Garden State Veterinary Specialists, where he was treated with a new drug, MCSPCA says.
He was hospitalized for round-the-clock care for a few days before returning to the shelter, where he now is expected to make a full recovery.

“Your generosity helped us save TWO lives in under a week – thank you so much for giving us the support we need to be there for the ones who need us most,” MCSPCA wrote.
MSPCA says Archie had new sutures and freshly shaved areas on his leg when he was found, indicating he recently had undergone surgery.
They are asking local veterinarians if they recognize the pooch, so they can determine where he came from.
