Ohio police release bodycam footage, 911 calls from dog attack
The owner of two dogs faces criminal charges after the pair attacked an 8-year-old boy. Police fatally shot one of the dogs.
A Columbus family is accepting donations for medical care for an 8-year-old boy mauled by a pair of dogs as he played outside.
Two dogs critically injured Oscar Koon near his home March 2 on the 3000 block of Hiawatha Street. Oscar survived after a Columbus police officer rushed him to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, but he suffered extensive injuries on his face and arms in the attack.
Oscar’s family says he will likely need reconstructive surgery, physical and occupational therapy and mental health care to recover. While Oscar’s parents have health insurance, they will need to take significant time off work and will lose income, Oscar’s aunt Rebecca Hook noted in a GoFundMe fundraiser.
As of Monday morning, donors had given over $12,000.
In an interview Friday with the Dispatch, Hook said the attack has devastated the family. The family supports criminal penalties for the dog owner, but for now is focused on ensuring Oscar gets the care and support he needs, Hook said.
