GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. (FOX 2) – A Genesee County man is now facing charges after authorities say he abandoned his two dogs, leaving them behind in small, filthy cages.
Jeremy Neph, 33, is charged with one count of killing and torturing an animal.
The backstory:
Genesee County Sheriff Chris Sawson said deputies were called to a home on Langdon Drive in Vienna Township on Jan. 19 because two dogs had been left behind by the previous resident.
When deputies arrived, they found two dogs covered in urine and feces that were locked in cages in the garage. One of the dogs, who has since been renamed Baxter, was sitting up, while the other dog was on its side and could only move its eyes. Both dogs had no food or water, and were emaciated.

The dog that was lying down had to be euthanized, Swanson said.
“Had no strength, had no ability to survive,” he said.
What’s next:
Baxter is now with Genesee Animal Control, where he is putting on some weight. The dog and an animal control worker joined Swanson for a press conference announcing charges against Neph on Friday.
The animal control employee described Baxter as one of the most loving dogs she had ever met.
