GENESEE CO., Mich. (WNEM) – Genesee County Animal Control is thanking the community for a huge number of donations after it took in 44 dogs from a hoarding case.
The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office announced on Tuesday, Oct. 15, that 44 dogs were rescued from a home in Burton over the weekend, and they were being cared for by Genesee County Animal Control.
The shelter said it put out a plea to the community asking for donations after it took all of those dogs in, and the community responded overwhelmingly.
The shelter said it received 248 boxes of supplies on Tuesday.
“We are truly in awe of the support we have received and cannot thank you all enough. We couldn’t do what we do without you,” the shelter said on its Facebook post.
Flint Township police and Pet Smart also donated to the cause.
The department said officers pooled their money together and went to Pet Smart on Miller Road to buy supplies for the shelter. However, the department said Pet Smart refused to take the money and instead donated the food, bedding, and toys that they brought to the shelter.
The money the Flint Township police officers had collected was donated directly to the shelter, the department said.

The hoarding home from which the dogs were rescued has since been condemned, according to the Genesee County sheriff. Sadly, 13 dogs were found dead at the home as well.
