Gene Hackman’s Surviving Dogs Placed in ‘Loving Homes’: Report

The two surviving dogs of Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa-Hackman have found “loving homes.”

That’s according to DailyMail.com, which reported that the animals are a German Shepherd named “Bear” and an Akita-shepherd mix named “Nikita.”

Tragically, Hackman and Arakawa-Hackman’s third dog perished inside their home, authorities previously confirmed in a news conference. That’s because they said the third animal was crated after undergoing a medical procedure.

According to the Santa Fe County sheriff and medical examiner, speaking in that news conference, Arakawa-Hackman died from hantavirus syndrome, whereas Hackman passed away about a week later from cardiac and hypertensive issues, with Alzheimer’s disease contributing to his demise.

But the dogs will be well cared for, according to DailyMail.com.

After the deaths of their owners, the two dogs were being cared for by Joey Padilla, who owns a “doggie daycare center,” DailyMail.com reported.

However, Padilla told the publication that the dogs have now been relocated to different homes.

One is now living with a family in another state and the second is in a “local home,” Padilla told DailyMail.com.

“It is with great joy that, with the consent of the estate attorney, I and my staff at Santa Fe Tails have successfully found homes for the Hackmans’ surviving dogs, Bear and Nikita,” he wrote, according to DailyMail.com.

Padilla also confirmed the news to Fox Digital, saying, “We went through stringent efforts to ensure the best homes were found, and the dogs have already begun settling into their new lives.”

The two dogs were praised by authorities for helping direct them to Hackman’s body.

When authorities first entered the Hackman home, they found Arakawa-Hackman’s body first, in a bathroom. However, it took first responders about 30 minutes to learn that Hackman, too, had passed away, according to USA Today.

The dogs began barking and eventually led first responders to Hackman, who had passed away in a mudroom with a walking cane and sunglasses at his side, USA Today reported. Authorities said in the news conference that it’s not clear whether Hackman ever realized that his wife had died. Hackman died after Arakawa-Hackman, which authorities pinned down because of data they obtained from his pacemaker, they revealed at the news conference.

Authorities did not find any food inside Hackman’s stomach, but they also believe that he was not dehydrated, indicating he may have been able to obtain water inside the home. The two dogs who survived were not in crates like the animal that passed away, according to authorities.

The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
