  • The Galion City Schools Board of Education introduced new policies for the use of Narcan in schools and the implementation of a School Facility Dogs Program.
  • Select staff members will be trained to administer Narcan in case of an opioid overdose.
  • School facility dogs, which differ from emotional support animals and service animals, aim to provide benefits such as reduced stress and improved emotional well-being for students.

The Galion City Schools Board of Education announced new policies aimed at enhancing student safety and well-being.

During its meeting March 5, board members introduced two significant additions to its bylaws and policies, according to an announcement. The first policy addresses the procurement and use of Naloxone, commonly known as Narcan, in emergency situations. Narcan will be placed in secure yet accessible locations within each district building. Select staff members will receive training on how to administer Narcan, which is used to counteract opioid overdoses.

The second policy establishes a School Facility Dogs Program. The initiative supports the use of trained dogs in schools to aid students, according to the announcement. It is important to note school facility dogs differ from emotional support animals and service animals. The program aims to provide benefits such as reduced stress, improved emotional well-being and enhanced academic achievement for students.

To participate in the program, specific requirements must be met. Handlers of school facility dogs must provide proof of registration, verify the dog’s good health through a licensed veterinarian, and obtain licensure from the local dog licensing authority. These measures ensure that the dogs are well cared for and suitable for the school environment.

The next meeting of the Galion City Schools Board of Education is set for 6:30 p.m. April 15 at Galion Middle School. For more information, visit galionschools.org or contact the Galion City Schools administrative office at 419-468-3432.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
