When a person passes away, it’s normal to think about and pray for the deceased’s surviving family and friends.
But sometimes, the ones left behind are not just people, but pets as well.
Such is the case with Robert Bunch, a local photographer who died from cancer in April at age 77. Recently, Ted Barker, a friend of Bunch’s, emailed the Lakewood/East Dallas Advocate Magazine to ask for help. Barker discovered that two of Bunch’s dogs were being boarded at the East Dallas Veterinary Clinic. The dogs need a permanent home.
“Mr. Bunch asked Dr. (Virginia) Ellsworth to care for his pets and oversee their adoption process if he passed away,” said Franklin Meredith, East Dallas Veterinary Clinic executive director. “We have the legal ownership of the pets and have no issue signing a release to the new adopted owners.”

You may be asking, “Who are these dogs?” Well, the dogs are Whitey, a 10-year-old male who weighs just under 59 pounds and is white and tan, and Annie, a female Pointer mix with a mass cell tumor who is 18.4 pounds and colored white and red. Both dogs are up to date on their vaccinations and fixed — neutered and spayed, respectively. Whitey and Annie were described as “very sweet” and compatible with each other.
The Advocate ran an obituary for Bunch in our May edition, but in case you didn’t see it, here’s a little information about him: While working for UPI, he photographed Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Dallas Mavericks games. He took pictures for newspapers and magazines, including the Advocate. He retired in 2012 after spending over 30 years in his profession. As a hobby, Bunch also photographed wildlife around White Rock Lake and McKittrick Canyon in Guadalupe Mountains National Park. He was a Vietnam veteran and alumnus of Bryan Adams High School, Class of 1965.
Anyone wanting to adopt Whitey and Annie can contact East Dallas Veterinary Clinic and ask for Meredith at 214-328-9935.
