The Highland County Dog Pound has the following dogs available for adoption or rescue pulls as of Feb. 8, listed courtesy of the Friends of the Highland County Dog Pound.
Additional vetting may be performed according to your needs, so let’s talk about it. There are no pull fees for rescues (covered by donations).
(1) Clifford: Clifford, as in the big red dog, because that’s exactly him. This big guy is possibly around 4 years old and weighs 75 lbs. Clifford is so friendly and loving. Not sure on the breed but possibly lab mix. All the black pups you will see also were brought in with him. This big guy seemed to do just fine when around another dog. Intake date: 5/17/24. Donations received for him will go along with him to the rescue that helps him. Choose Clifford!
(2) Diesel: Diesel is a pit mix who came to us as a stray. He is very friendly and loves to play and get loved on. He has done well with other dogs here at the pound and he came in with a female. He is short and stocky, weighing around 45 lbs. Intake date: 4/29/24.

(3) Happy Feet: If you ever wanted to pull a pit bull, he is the one. Happy Feet got his name because when you go to his kennel door, he’s so happy to see you and his front feet dance. He is around 2-3 years old and weighs a whopping 70 lbs. Happy Feet has been around other dogs here at the pound and seems to be fine with them. He doesn’t really pay any attention to them. Intake date: 5/13/24.

(4) Maverick: Maverick was picked up by us as a stray from a local school. He’s estimated at 3-4 years old, and he weighs 60 lbs. He’s very sweet and gentle. He loves to give kisses, and even the resource officer at the school said he was a big baby. He seems fine with dogs.
(5) Willow: Willow was picked up as a stray from a campground. She’s a shepherd mix and is estimated at 1-2 years of age and around 45-50 lbs. She seems friendly with other dogs.

(6) Rover: We took Rover and 2 other dogs in. They were going to be euthanized if no one helped them due to their owners getting evicted. Rover is estimated at 2 years old and weighing 45-50 lbs. Rover is neutered and seems to be OK with other dogs.
(7) Bo: Bo was brought in with Rover. Bo is a little smaller and estimated at 1 year old and 35-40 lbs. Bo has been OK with other dogs.

(8) Scrappy: Scrappy came to us as a stray who was very, very thin. Since this picture, he has gained weight and looks much better, weighing around 25 lbs. and estimated at 1-2 years old. He has been good with other dogs.
(9) Cider: Cider seems to be a boxer mix and is estimated to be 1-2 years old and 50 pounds. She is a very loving girl. She is dog selective, and older children would be recommended.
(10) Bruce: Bruce is a mixed breed who is around 3 years old. He came to us as a stray. Bruce seems to be OK with other dogs.
(11) Marley: Marley came to us as a stray who was found with an abandoned car on someone’s property. Marley is a Shar Pei Mix who is around 2 years old. Marley has a good sized cut on his left side. Doc said he wasn’t worried about it, that it wasn’t bad enough to absolutely need stitches. Marley seems to be OK with other dogs.
(12) Wren: Wren is a shepherd mix who is around 8-10 years old and weighs around 60-70 lbs. Wren needs a home to just lay around and live out the rest of his days at. Wren has arthritis in his back hips that is starting, cataracts in his eyes and some lumps on his legs which may or may not be cancerous. Please consider pulling Wren so he doesn’t have to keep sitting in a kennel.

(13) Blade: Blade is a pit mix weighing around 50 lbs. He was found as a stray dumped at a local state park. He was very scared and would not let anyone get within five feet of him, although you could tell he wanted to be helped. We set a live trap and walked away enough to where we could see him and he went right in. Blade has started to shine since he has been here and now loves everyone he meets. Blade has been fine around other dogs here.
(14) Bonnie: Bonnie is a pit mix around 2 years old and weighs around 40 lbs. We got her as a stray who had six puppies. She is a pretty sweet girl who loves outside time. She has been fine with other dogs.

(15) Wednesday: She is a pit mix around 3 years old who weighs around 55 lbs. She was found as a stray. While waiting for a kennel to open up with us, she was at a home that had cats and chickens, and she did great with them. She has been good with other dogs as well.
(16) Flopsy: Flopsy is a beautiful pit girl who is 2-3 years old and weighs 55 lbs. Flopsy got her name because when you go to pet her, she flops on the ground wanting all the belly rubs you will give her. She loves people and has a very loving personality. This sweet girl has never shown any type of aggression, and she seems to be OK with other dogs. Intake date: 3/8/24.

(17) Tiger: Tiger is a mixed breed weighing 38 lbs. and around 1-2 years old. Tiger is a sweetheart and may not do well if he was the only dog because he likes dog friends.
(18) Target: If you have been a long time follower with us you might have seen Target a couple of times before. Target is such a good dog and is looking for his forever home. He has been through so much and still continues to be amazing. He is still fine with other dogs. He has been in and out of the shelter through no fault of his own at all, only poor owners. If you can help one dog, PLEASE think about Target.

(19) Lucky: Lucky is a 2-3 year old mixed breed who weighs around 40 lbs. He is very friendly and seems to be good with other dogs. Very nice happy boy.
(20) Titus: Titus came to us as a stray who is around 2-3 years old. He is a heeler and weighs approximately 50-55 lbs. Titus seems to be good with other dogs.
(21) Blair: Blair came to us as a stray. Although we once knew who the owner was, he said he had given her away and wouldn’t tell us anything about the current owner. Blair may be just another pit mix who is brindle, but this sweet girl deserves a second chance at life. She has had one litter of pups already and was left to defend for herself running loose. Blair seems to be OK with other dogs. We have noticed recently that Blair is licking her paws more than she had been, and we believe it is a sign that Blair is feeling stressed being in the dog pound. Please, if at all possible, please consider the health of this sweet girl and help her find a foster or adopt home with less stress for her. Thank you.
(22) Noelle: Noelle was brought to us as a stray. She is around 2-3 years old and weighs around 40-45 lbs. Noelle can be a little shy at the first meet but after that be ready to get kisses and give scratches. Noelle seems to be OK with other dogs.
(23) Edna: Edna is a heeler mix who weighs about 51 lbs. She is an adult dog, and Edna is spayed as she has had puppies before. She is up to date on all of her shots including rabies. She is said to be good with other dogs.
We would be pleased to answer any questions you may have about these wonderful dogs.
