FRANKENMUTH, Mich. (WNEM) – Frankenmuth’s favorite doggone festival returns to mid-Michigan’s Little Bavaria over Memorial Day weekend.
The 19th annual Frankenmuth Dog Bowl is back with more family fun on May 24 and 25. Organizers said hundreds of dogs will be competing in events like DockDogs® and Disc Dogs. Visitors can also watch border collie sheep herding demonstrations, a lure course, dog mushing demonstrations, a barn hunt, a pet parade and costume contest, trick competitions, and doggie fun run races.
The free festival takes place at River Place Shops, located on 925 S. Main Street. Dogs are welcome but must be on a 6-foot leash.
Organizers expect more than 100,000 visitors in Frankenmuth over Memorial Day weekend.
“Our events team has worked very hard to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all of our guests, whether they are humans or canines,” said Michael Zehnder, owner of River Place Shops.
Another feature of the festival is Balloons Over Bavarian Inn, where hot air balloon pilots will take to the skies for morning and evening competitions and return to River Place Shops for nightly balloon glows throughout the weekend. Visitors can meet with the pilots and their crews on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights from 9 to 10 p.m. as part of the Balloon Glow Village event.
The Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth fireworks show, sponsored by Pepsi marks the end the festival. Catch the colorful display on Sunday, May 25 at 9:45 p.m. The show will be visible from across Frankenmuth, but organizers said the best place to watch it will be the large field east of River Place Shops.
