Foster dog too scared to jump on bed finally learns comfort: “safe space”

Shelter animals often struggle with letting their guard down and learning to trust again. It can take time, but once they are exposed to love their whole mindset changes. And sometimes all it takes is a restful nap.

TikTok user @patricelavoie wanted to nap on the bed with the dogs, but his foster canine wouldn’t jump up and join them. Having never seen a bed before, the foster was terrified. He had never known comfort before. Instead of joining the cuddle party, he ran away and hunkered in the basement, but Patrice wasn’t giving up. He was determined to show his foster dog a life of comfort and love.

Patrice followed the dog, picked him up and carried him to the room. He kept the dog in between his legs trying to comfort him. It took about 15 to 20 minutes before the dog finally relaxed. But once he did, he got what was likely the best rest.

Viewers can see the dog calming down the more he lay on the bed in Patrice’s July 25 TikTok video. Realizing it was a safe space, the dog drifted into a deep sleep where he snored the day away.

Patrice told Newsweek via TikTok that this foster dog didn’t lead to an adoption from him, but thankfully, another family welcomed him home.

“…This dog was really not comfortable in a pack,” he said. “He needed a family with fewer animals and with kids. I am happy to tell you that he has been adopted by a dad and his kid, and the whole family is doing great.”

Viewers melted over the foster parent showing this sweet dog patience and love. The TikTok video amassed over 419,000 views and 75,100 likes as of Friday.

“That moment where you see them relax and realize it’s a safe space is so precious and perfect,” said a viewer.

Another commented: “That is probably the best he has ever had in his whole life. Safe, fed, loved, and warm.”

A third person added: “Once he knew he was safe he was able to relax and get the rest he needed.”

Pointing out the sign of a good night’s rest, someone wrote: “The snoring immediately made me smile.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
