PEORIA (25News Now) -In August of 2023, Sara Cruse found a pitbull formerly named Nugget lying in her backyard and described him as nothing but “skin and bones”.
A year later, she reunites with him and meets the family who adopted him.
She reported the dirt and fleas-covered dog to Peoria County Animal Protection Services (PCAPS).
Shortly after, Tim Corrington adopted the pitbull, who now goes by Mr. Johnny, and reunited him with Cruse for the year-marked anniversary of when she saved the dog from what could’ve been a tragedy.
“It makes me happy, and when Tim opened the door, he ran right to me,” said Cruse. “They say that dogs will remember who rescued them and I wasn’t sure because it’s been a year but he remembered me.”
Cruse says she’s going to keep in touch with Corrington and celebrate Mr. Johnny’s birthday within the next few months.
The pitbull is now living with Corrington and his sons and weighs a healthy 70 lbs.
