“Dear PoPville,
For at least four weeks, there has been a leak at the Shaw Dog Park that has continuously left the portion of the park for smaller dogs flooded.
Everyone who has entered the larger dog park mentions it in hopes that the water fountains have finally been turned on only to realize that they are not (coming soon at the end of March per the regular schedule). Then, they are led to ask, why is the smaller park flooded.
I’ve personally called DC Parks and Recreation at least 5 times. They finally sent a crew from DC General Services who spent nearly an hour trying to find the shutoff valve. This team recently installed a human water fountain actually, which you can see in one of the attached pictures, and the associated white valve that services it, to the immediate right of the fountain. Nevertheless, the couldn’t find the valve for the dog water.
I recommended that they (1) rake the grounds surrounding the dog water fountains to find the valve and/or (2) contact the Office of Planning to determine where the valve was installed. They said they were good ideas and they summarily then left.
I don’t know why this is so frustrating – maybe it’s the waste of water or the confusion of why the problem hasn’t been fixed to date…!? Maybe it’s associated with the countless separate agencies that have to be involved to fix a simple problem…!? Maybe it’s because the dogs see the water and want some, and have taken to dragging empty water bowls around the park…!?”
