SIOUX CENTER—A 26-year-old Port St. Lucie, FL, woman was cited about 10:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, in Sioux Center on two counts of animal neglect.
The citing of Dabriel Brianna stemmed from a report of a 2006 Kia Sorento in the emergency room parking lot at Sioux Center Health, according to the Sioux Center Police Department.
The vehicle had two dogs in it, and the caller reported having only seen an individual take care of the dogs once since Thursday.
The investigating officer reported the vehicle had appeared to have been “sitting there for quite a while. When looking inside, I saw two dogs with fecal matter spread all over, no water present, and a small scoop of food set out.”
After talking with others law enforcement officers, it was determined “the fecal matter did not provide sanitary conditions for the dogs, there was a lack of sufficient water available, and the weather was too cold for the dogs to be sitting in an unheated car,” according to the incident report.
Brianna, the owner of the vehicle, came out after a while, and it was decided not to tow the vehicle.
She allowed the dogs to be taken to Wet-Nose Rescue, an animal shelter in Le Mars.
