Florida authorities make arrest in alleged dog fighting operation

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WALA) – The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office has made one arrest in connection with an alleged dog fighting operation.

On Friday, ECSO deputies, working in conjunction with Escambia County Animal Welfare, arrested Jerney Purifoy of Pensacola, on charges of animal fighting and cruelty towards animals.

Following the arrest, the ECSO SWAT Team executed a search warrant on a residence where they found alleged evidence of dog fighting, including IV bags, wound care paraphernalia and training manuals. Authorities said they also found a rifle and a handgun.

Prior to that, Escambia County Animal Welfare seized a number of dogs. Authorities did not specify how many dogs were involved or indicate their condition.

Purifoy was booked into the Escambia County Jail Friday afternoon and released later that evening on bond totaling $15,000, jail records show. He has a court appearance scheduled April 17.
