LOXAHATCHEE GROVES, Fla. (CBS12) — In the wake of devastating wildfires across California, many families have lost their homes, leaving pets in peril and some being surrendered by their owners.
To help these animals, Big Dog Ranch Rescue stepped in and traveled from Florida to Palm Springs, California, with a large bus.
In total, Big Dog Ranch transported 48 dogs to safety in Florida, fleeing the fires.

Now, the shelter is hoping to give these dogs who once had families new homes with new families.
With California shelters overflowing and many people struggling to find pet-friendly housing, the need for support is critical. Big Dog Ranch aims to head back out to California to rescue more dogs in around a week and is desperate for more shelter space.
Furthermore, the shelter is calling for donations to help care for these animals, because it is costly looking after all of these dogs who desperately need help.
