Dogfighting is a brutal and illegal activity that leaves many innocent animals in dire need of rescue and rehabilitation. Fortunately, there are dedicated organizations and individuals committed to saving these dogs from such horrific conditions. These dogs, who were rescued from dogfighting rings, have undergone incredible and inspiring transformations.
1. Liam’s Story

Liam, a pit bull, was shy and covered in various wounds when he was found by Melanie and Kent Pafford of the Streetdog Foundation of Memphis. He was in dire need of help as he was abandoned behind a dumpster after spending his life in a dogfighting ring. He has been used as bait. With time and lots of love, he was brought back to health, fostered, and then adopted by a wonderful family who treats him “like a king”.
2. Stallone’s Story

Rescued during a mass dogfighting raid in 2009, Stallone the pitbull terrier was found in terrible shape. He had wounds on his face and body. He was brought to an emergency shelter, along with hundreds of other dogs. Unfortunately, his wounds were so extensive that he passed away. But, his story is now shared to warn others of the dangers of dogfighting. The person who victimized Stallone was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison.
3. Felon’s Story

This woman wanted to save a dog that needed help. She found out that black dogs, with cropped ears were less likely to be adopted and more likely to be euthanized. So, when she looked on her local shelter’s website and saw Felon, she fell in love. At first, he had some aggressive behavior from his previous life in dogfighting. But he soon softened up and became the happiest pup.
4. Knight’s Story

Knight was found in Egypt behind an ATM suffering from the wounds that had been inflicted upon him from dogfighting. One of these injuries required multiple rounds of surgery. But, through it all, Knights was very sweet. After healing for a little while in Egypt, Knight headed to Phoenix, Arizona to a rescue center that aims to find his forever home.
5. Honey’s Story

Honey was rescued from a dogfighting operation. Her living conditions were dark, according to the Humane Society. There were broken sticks and the walls were covered in blood. Just outside of the house was a timid little tan pitbull with a major mouth injury. Luckily, her rescuers stepped in to bring her back to health and happiness.
The stories of these five rescued dogs serve as a powerful reminder of the resilience that animals possess even in the most dire circumstances. Thanks to the tireless efforts of rescue organizations and compassionate individuals, these dogs have been given a second chance at life, free from the cruelty they once endured.
