Adopting a pet is a great way to give a pet a new home after being left on their own, be it by a previous owner passing away or, in some cases, being dumped.
The Dogs Trust branch in Basildon works hard to care for dogs in distress as well as find a loving family to give them a home if they need it.
If you think you would be able to rehome one of them, go to the group’s website.
Things to Consider Before Adopting a Pet

Dogs Trust Basildon: 5 pets in search of forever homes
Here are five dogs who are looking for their new home.
Meeko

Age – Five years old
Breed – Pomeranian
If you want to adopt Meeko, you can view their full profile here.
“Lovely” Meeko is described as a “super sweet, energetic lad”.
He is happy to travel in the car and be out and about in quiet places, due to this a secure private garden is needed so he can mooch around and relax.
He has to be the only dog in the home and living with children 14 and older. He will also need a quiet home that is not too busy and can give him a consistent routine and build his confidence.
Meeko will also need his family to be around most of the time as he doesn’t like to be left alone and can get a little distressed.
Hazel

Age – Three years old
Breed – Rottweiler
If you want to adopt Hazel, you can view their full profile here.
Hazel came to Dogs Trust as a stray, so the centre has no history on her, and she is looking for a “calm, structured home to help her settle in”.
She will need housetraining but loves food so this would be a great tool for training and building a bond.
Hazel is looking for a home with older teenagers of 16 and older and owners who are used to large dogs.
She will also need a private and secure garden to help her with mental and physical stimulation.
Boo

Age – Nine months
Breed – Alaskan Malamute Cross
If you want to adopt Boo, you can view their full profile here.
This playful pup is friendly towards people and can get a little overexcited around new dogs so will need a family with an understanding of managing large breeds and puppy behaviours.
He is good in the car, takes food nicely from your hand and likes his toys.
Boo will need an adult-only home and would benefit from being the only dog and being with a family who can provide the exercise and stimulation he needs.
Boo can be left for a few hours but leaving hours would need to be built up slowly at first when he is settling in.
Buster

Age – One year old
Breed – Rottweiler
If you want to adopt Buster, you can view their full profile here.
Buster is “full of fun energy and has so much love to give”.
He enjoys playing with his toys and enjoys a game of tug or fetch.
Buster can live with older children 16 and older who are comfortable with large, bouncy dogs, but he will need to be the only pet in the home.
He will need to be muzzled and on a lead when out and about as he can be occasionally reactive to people.
Belle

Age – Nine years old
Breed – Chihuahua (Smooth Coat)
If you want to adopt Belle, you can view their full profile here.
Belle is a sweetie once she knows you and enjoys being snuggled up, getting lots of cuddles.
She is a “spritely little lady” who enjoys a calm walk and still likes to make herself heard when out and about.

Belle can live with children aged 11 and can potentially live with cats but will need to be the only dog.
Use of a secure garden or outdoor space would be beneficial for her to sniff about in at her own pace.
Belle will also need someone around most of the time at first and leaving hours will need to be built up slowly.
