At Fitger’s in Duluth, over 40 puppies competed to be crowned the Beargrease Cutest Puppy, and miniature dogs got their chance to race as sled dogs, both as a way to celebrate the eve of the 40th John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon.
“It just really brings the whole community out for something to do, especially in the middle of the winter. Usually this is in January, but it got pushed back a little bit for weather reasons. But it is just so fun to get everybody outside and out in an event and as a community and whole,” said owner of A Place for Fido, Jamie Parent.
The event not only gave puppy parents a chance to show off their dog’s skills, but an opportunity for the community to come together for some outdoor fun.
“It’s little, tiny dogs pulling little, tiny sleds. What more do you need? It’s an excuse for dog owners to get their little pooches together because people are crazy about their pets. Whenever you get a whole bunch of little dogs together you never know what’s going to happen,” said Jason Manning, brand manager for KQDS Radio.
Even though only one dog could be crowned cutest puppy or win the mini sled dog races, the two community events brought together a bigger cause, supporting the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon.
“It’s such a unique event to this area and we’re just trying to do our small part to promote it to get more exposure for the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon. And so, we’re very proud to partner up with them with our little event and again just to give them more exposure because it’s such a unique cool event,” said Manning.
