A group of fishermen saved 38 dogs from drowning in Grenada Lake in Mississippi. Bob Gist and Brad Carlisle were fishing with local fishing guide Jordan Chrestman when they heard the sound of dogs barking.
“We went on fishing for about 10 or 15 more minutes, and Jordan [Chrestman] said, ‘Hey guys if you don’t mind, we really need to go check on those dogs because they’re way out there in that water,'” Gist told Fox News.
As they headed toward the sound of the barking dogs, they were shocked to find dozens of dogs swimming in the lake.
“We’re just flabbergasted because it’s dogs everywhere, and they’re all going in different directions because they can no longer see the bank on either side,” Gist said. “And they’re all hunting dogs — we can clearly see that because they have expensive GPS radio collars on them.”
The three men knew they had to act and started pulling the dogs into their boat. They managed to get about 25 dogs into their boat and brought them to the shore, where they found one of their owners, who said they were taking part in an annual fox run and had chased a deer into the water.
The men used the GPS collars to track the remaining dogs, who were more than a mile from the shore.
“They were on the verge of drowning because now they have been treading water for an hour,” Gist said. “We were having to drag them out of the boat because they didn’t want to get out of our boat. They were scared they were going back to the water.”
The owners offered the men a reward for rescuing the dogs, but they declined, saying they were happy to be in the right place at the right time to help out.
