First round of handbags in domestic abuse appeal arrive in Poole

Sixty bags have arrived in Poole from the Love Grace headquarters in Essex.

These 60 bags arrived lovingly filled with essentials and luxuries at Bournemouth Churches Housing Association in Poole.

Twenty of the handbags are going to safe accommodation, 20 to Dorset Working Women’s project and the last 20 will be going to Hope for Food.

These handbags are part of an appeal that aims to help the victims of domestic abuse.

The Love Grace Handbag Appeal was started by the family of Grace Millane, who was tragically killed in 2018, while she was travelling in New Zealand.

Hannah Wheatley, campaign coordinator, drove up to the Love Grace headquarters with all the bags that had been donated at drop off points around BCP.

She then proceeded to bring these bags back down to the BCP area, after they had been cleaned and packaged with items from Love Grace volunteers.

Hannah met with Danni Arnold, BCP Council community safety officer, at BCHA and was helped with unloading the bags which are being delivered to local vulnerable women in our community.

A spokesperson for BCP Council said: “Thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign and kindly donated bags and toiletries.

“The campaign is ongoing so you can still get involved.”

Each bag has a message attached, the message reads: “Grace Millane was unjustly taken from us on the eve of her 22nd birthday whilst travelling.

“She was a loving, family orientated free spirit with a beautiful caring nature, who was a loyal friend and enhanced the lives of all those who were lucky enough to meet her.

“Grace’s family have created a legacy in her name by fundraising for the white ribbon charity, promoting awareness to end male violence towards women.

“To continue this legacy, we have created Love Grace bags, donated in memory of our amazing Grace which contain everyday essentials that we hope will be of benefit to you and help you on your road to a safe future.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
