The South Trail Fire and Rescue Service District battled against floodwaters to rescue two people and five dogs Thursday night during Hurricane Helene. According to the fire department, several different districts were helping people leave their flooded homes when they got a call for a possible fire off of Coca Sabal Lane. There was the smell of electric burning and smoke in a home. The homeowners and five dogs were on their exterior balcony due to floodwaters on the bottom floor.
