OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Oklahoma City firefighters responded to a house fire on Sunday after spotting flames over half a mile away.
Upon arrival, crews found the fire had engulfed the attic and was rapidly spreading.
Officials said two vehicles were parked in the driveway.
Firefighters initiated an interior attack and search, rescuing two dogs. The dogs were treated by EMSA and taken to a local veterinary clinic for further care.
According to OKCFD, no occupants were found inside the home, and later contact with the homeowners confirmed no one was home.
Due to escalating fire conditions and a partial collapse of the front brick and rock façade, crews were ordered out and operations shifted to a defensive strategy. – OKCFD
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Investigators said the recent severe storms in the area raised the possibility that a lightning strike may have ignited the attic hours earlier.
