A fire at a home east of Statesville was fought earlier this week. According to the Iredell Free News, the Cool Springs Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for a structure fire on Shady Stream Drive at approximately 3:30 p.m. Monday (March 3). The Statesville, Shepherds and Ebenezer fire departments also responded along with Iredell County EMS and the Iredell Rescue Squad. Initial reports stated that there were two dogs inside the burning structure.
Arriving units encountered heavy fire from the rear of the structure, firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and knocked down the flames while additional companies searched the structure for possible occupants.
Crews found two unresponsive dogs, removed them from the structure and began giving them air from their own masks while EMS personnel, equipped with specialized pet oxygen masks, took over trying to revive them. After a period time, both dogs started breathing on their own and were taken by a private vehicle to a local veterinarian. One was in serious condition.
The fire was declared under control at 3:48 p.m. According to the published report, No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
