Ferrari’s new handbags tell a fascinating story

Since 1947, successive generations of designers, engineers and race-car drivers have pushed, under the Ferrari name, to be the best. The fastest. Along the way, their passion for speed inspired a set of visual codes, with sweeping lines and evocative hues of racing red and yellow.

The obsession with speed is simple. To many, it represents freedom: to explore, to push beyond boundaries, to forfeit all that doesn’t serve this singular purpose. And it’s why Ferrari’s latest project, a fashion line which turns the house of the Prancing Horse into a bona-fide maison, feels so fitting.

Creative director Rocco Iannone debuted the first Ferrari collection in 2021. For his seventh and most recent, titled The Ferrari Cabinet, he chose the theme of wardrobe to explore the physical and conceptual act of dressing up. Presented for spring/summer 2025, it balances the functional with the instinctive, creating a dialogue between clothing and identity.

A campaign shot by Willy Vanderperre brings the narrative to life. The Belgian photographer’s stylistic lens captures a cast of characters, including the model Amelia Gray, exploring expression and metamorphosis in a physical wardrobe space. The collection’s silhouettes trace and envelop the body’s contours, enhancing but never constricting, to convey a sense of lightness and fluidity. Iannone also turns the mirror on Ferrari, bringing its visual codes to life in new ways. The iconic Ferrari red is paired with new hues of tobacco, terracotta, ivory and yellow. The Prancing Horse emblem is reinterpreted in 3D embroideries and macramé patches on T-shirts, dresses and a one-of-a-kind skirt. The precise volumes and sinuous lines are inspired by close studies of the carmaker’s designs, and create a feeling of power and sensuality.

Nello, The Ferrari Tool Case

Completing the story are accessories. The archetypal factory worker’s toolbox, a staple of Ferrari’s home of Maranello, lends its geometry to a trunk-shaped handbag named Nello, The Ferrari Tool Case. It sports a lining made of Alcantara, a suede-like fabric usually found in luxury auto interiors, and hardware inspired by the rivets of racing cars. A flowing leather fringe is made from regenerated leather (minimising production waste), and is reminiscent of the Prancing Horse logo – the same detail resurfaces elsewhere in the collection, on the heels of chic, minimalist sandals.

Nello, The Ferrari Tool Case arrives in seven configurations inspired by different chapters of the Ferrari story. A standout is the radica leather option, inspired by Seventies steering wheels, and buffered and burnished by hand to achieve the most luxurious shine. Once opened, the bag reveals a vanity mirror, bringing the concept to life in the most functional way.

La Ferrari Dino Bag

Another showstopper is La Ferrari Dino Bag. First launched as part of the autumn/winter 2024 collection, it pays homage to the iconic La Dino 246 model, a racing car designed by Enzo Ferrari as a tribute to his son Alfredo, aka Dino.

With a distinctly Seventies feel, its geometry is reminiscent of the fluid lines of the car, which made its first appearance in Turin in 1969. Hand-painted edges give an elegant finish to the leather, which is punctuated by a Prancing Horse emblem in ruthenium (a durable alternative to silver), and an embossed logo on the side. This season, La Ferrari Dino Bag arrives in a range of sizes, including a mini, hobo, duffel and a bowling bag, in shades of red, black, ivory, green and silver.

Just like the rest of the collection, it brings the codes and legend of Ferrari to life in new ways. Flats, tinted glasses and driving gloves complete the look, which at once evokes the boldness of the Ferrari world, while inviting the wearer to explore her own passion.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
