Felon arrested, charged after threatening to shoot family if his dog was harmed

FORT ATKINSON, Iowa (KCRG) – A felon was arrested and charged Wednesday for threatening to shoot a family if his dog was harmed.

At approximately 4:56 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to 280th Avenue in Fort Atkinson for a report of an altercation that occurred at someone’s home.

According to a release from the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office, a dog had entered someone’s property and was causing safety issues.

A warning shot was fired at the dog in an attempt to get it off the property and away from kids.

Robert Neuzil, the owner of the dog, then drove onto the person’s property and threatened to shoot the property owner and his family if they hurt the dog.

Neuzil is a convicted felon and banned from owning firearms.

A short time after, a search/arrest warrant was conducted at Neuzil’s home, where police found a .22 caliber rifle, as well as firearm ammunition.

Neuzil was then arrested and charged with felony possession of a firearm and first degree harassment.
